New Sessions Announced: AI and the Future of Theatre
Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping how we create, produce, and organize our work and theatre is no exception. This new round of breakout sessions will explore how AI is already showing up across our field, from policy and authorship to creative practice and organizational strategy.

Across three sessions, we’ll unpack AI through the lenses of People, Practice, and Power, inviting you to engage with the opportunities, risks, and questions ahead.

People Arc
Playwrights & AI, from Protection to Collaboration
As AI enters the writing process, playwrights are navigating both concern and curiosity. While some are experimenting with AI to organize research, generate prompts, or expand world-building, many remain apprehensive, insisting that no algorithm can replicate lived experiences, cultural memory, or the singular nuance of a human writer. This session brings TCG and playwrights into conversation about what is gained, what is lost, and where collaboration ends and competition begins.

Power Arc
Shaping AI Policy That Impacts the Arts
As artificial intelligence rapidly enters the performing arts, many theatre workers feel understandable apprehension, particularly around intellectual property, authorship, and consent. Yet it is no longer a question of whether AI will impact artmaking, but how it will and who will shape the rules. This session examines the emerging policy landscape affecting theatre, including federal proposals such as the NO FAKES Act and the TRAIN Act, evolving guidance from the U.S. Copyright Office, and performer-led advocacy from unions and collective organizing.

Practice Arc
Developing an Organizational AI Framework
As organizations adapt to AI, topdown efforts to impose policies often fail. At the same time, employees may individually employ a diverse range of tools without a coherent approach to capacity building or operational, legal, and reputational risks. This session will help you develop frameworks for AI in your work and at your organizations that best align with your mission, values, and business model.

Enhance Your NC26 Experience with Add-Ons

Advocacy Intensive: Collective Voice & Field Impact
At a time where theatre continues to face urgent challenges, the Advocacy Intensive offers a powerful opportunity to galvanize our movement for theatre while building the tools to respond.

Through a hands-on workshop on storytelling, a cross-generational conversation on advocacy from campus to the field, and a reception in Old San Juan, this Wednesday experience is designed to equip you with strategies and momentum to deepen your advocacy practice.

Begin Each Day in Community: Conference Breakfasts
Start your day in community with Conference breakfasts designed to bring us together in conversation and connection.

Alongside daily attendee breakfasts, dedicated gatherings for Theatre Leader Connectedness (TLC) participants and trustees offer space to build relationships, exchange ideas, and ground your San Juan experience in shared purpose before the day begins.

We can’t wait to see you!
